Project Reference

Holland America Line (HAL)
Vessel: M.S. Noordam
Venue: Ship-wide PA-system

Description:

The Noordam was entered into service in 1984. It’s PA-system worked well but was beginning to present maintenance problems as parts became obsolete. The ship’s PA-system is foremost an emergency system intended to reach every corner of the ship during an emergency. It’s secondary function is for the ship’s staff to make announcements about activities on-board.

TDI was contracted to design, engineer and install the complete PA-system in 1999. The installation took place in Lisbon, Portugal during a 10-day dry-dock period. In that short time-frame, the old system was removed, the new system installed and programmed, all local entertainment area interfaces were modified, complete function & SPL testing was done and the system was approved by the Dutch shipping inspection. The PA-system was designed around a Philips SM-40 processor-based system with TDI designed custom call-stations.
